Assset Management

Asset management is often used as the synonym of investment management or fund management which is is a systematic process of operating , maintaining, and upgrading assets cost-effectively.

There are also some international asset management organizations and associations that are not-profit and organized by investors of different countries for their own needs and international assistance. Lots of huge and world known brands and investors are members of such associations. So it is really possible to talk about global asset management. Nowadays when competition among private businessmen and companies is very high it is desirable to know at least basic principles of asset management to feel more comfortable in the business world. Dozens of books are devoted to fundamental theory of asset management  as well as to the specific aspects of this. Much information on this topic can be found in the Internet, of course. It is also possible to attend special training programs and courses organized by asset management companies for ordinary people willing to know how to "take care" of their assets and funds.

Alternative views of asset management in the engineering environment are:
  • The practice of managing assets so that the greatest return is achieved (this concept is particularly useful for productive assets such as plant and equipment)
  • the process by which built systems of facilities are monitored and maintained, with the objective of providing the best possible service to users (appropriate for public infrastructure assets)
